Kent Hire’s first project was for an 854K Wheel Dozer rental to Glencore at Bulga Mine in NSW.  A lot of tough conversations with some fairly disinterested financiers occurred during this process, until finally Caterpillar Financial Australia Ltd approved the loan and Kent Hire was able to purchase the machine from Hastings Deering in Mackay.  The relationship between Kent Hire and Glencore at Bulga Mine is still very strong today and we are very appreciative of their support in these early stages.

After growing up on Queensland’s Central Highlands my employment in the mining industry began as an apprentice Diesel Fitter at Hastings Deering (Caterpillar) Mackay Branch.  During this apprenticeship and afterwards as a Field Service Diesel Fitter, I was presented with the opportunity to work at most of the mines in the Bowen Basin and learn large amounts about Caterpillar Equipment and the Mining Industry in general.

After Hastings Deering, I found employment in both Maintenance Management and Business Development positions with some of Australia’s largest and most successful Heavy Earthmoving Equipment Hire Companies both Privately and Publicly owned.  In these positions, I spent large amounts of time in the Pilbara of Western Australia, Hunter Valley of NSW, and Bowen Basin of Queensland working with most of the major mine operators in Australia.

Regardless of which section of the industry I was working with, there is one constant when dealing with hired earthmoving equipment.  Mine operators are under extreme pressure to deliver tonnes in a challenging environment.  When they require hire equipment to perform tasks they need fast, unhindered and administratively uncomplex access to quality equipment producing high availability levels, delivered on time, every time.
